Bomberman

1999 · Action · Sony Playstation

Bomberman (ボンバーマン Bonbāman?) is an arcade-style maze-based video game developed by Hudson Soft. The original home computer game Bomber Man (爆弾男 Bakudan Otoko?) was released in 1983 for the MSX, NEC PC-8801, NEC PC-6001, Sharp MZ-700 and FM-7 in Japan, and a censored version for the MSX and ZX Spectrum in Europe as Eric and the Floaters.[1] It had a Japanese sequel known as 3-D Bomberman, in which Bomberman navigates the maze in the first-person. In 1985, Bomberman was released for the Family Computer. It spawned the long-running series with many installments building on its basic gameplay. The earlier game Warp & Warp by Namco is most likely the inspiration for the Bomberman gameplay.

BeyBlade: Let It Rip!

2002 · Action · Sony Playstation

Similar to games featuring robots, monsters, or fighters battling for supremacy, Beyblade pits spinning tops, known as bei-goma, against one another in Tournament and Free Battle modes. In the former, players earn ten Bey Points (used to buy parts) and five Experience Points (used to level up) for each victory, but only five and three points respectively for a loss. Tournaments consist of seven rounds, including a semi-final and final round, with the ultimate winner being named champion and earning one of 30 Beyblade parts, while the vanquished receive 20 Bey Points as a consolation prize. In Free Battle mode, players choose to battle with one of eight Beybladers from the television series. Two players can compete against each other, assuming one has data saved on a PS memory card. Three complete Beyblades can be saved at any given time, with customization of names, gender, and parts (exchange or buy). Beyblades consist of five main parts and a launcher, including a bit chip, attack ring, weight disk, spin gear, and blade base, and players can carry up to nine spare parts for repair or customization. Battles require four points to win and features include special launches, shifting paths (based on the spinning top's parameters), special attacks, gimmicks (special powers inherent in some parts), and growth (to a maximum level of 19). Rewards are given for moving up levels, such as increases to endurance, mobility, attack power, and so forth. Throughout the battles, DJ Jazzman provides play-by-play in the Beystadium, Kenny offers help in customization, and Mr. Tate manages the parts shop.

Kukuru must marry a man she doesn't love, and in order to avoid this marriage, she accepts the offer of the mayor: he asks her to extinguish the flame. As a result, the spirit awakes and threatens to destroy the world. A young adventurer named Arc arrives to the village at the same moment as Kukuru is standing frightened in front of the spirit. Arc immediately recognizes it - it was the murderer of his father! Before he realizes how that could be possible, the spirit disappears, and now Arc and Kukuru have to do everything in their powers to undo the error, to stop the spirit, and perhaps to avenge the death of Arc's father. Army Men: Sarge's Heroes

1999 · Action · Sony Playstation

Army Men: Sarge's Heroes lets you play the role of Sergeant Hawk as he takes on the Tan Army in a series of 16 missions with over 40 different objectives, which range from simple seek-and-destroy to involved reconnaissance operations. The game is played from a third-person perspective so to familiarize yourself with the controls, you can enroll in Boot Camp to run through an obstacle course, practice firing weapons, and work on combat skills. To begin the single-player campaign, you'll receive objectives from General Grimm after which your character will appear in a combat zone. Use the map in the corner of the screen to help find your way to the current objective, carefully noting the type of terrain so you can plan your route of attack. But members of the Tan Army will try to thwart your progress every step of the way, so keep an eye on your health meter to know when to stop fighting and search for a Medkit. Also available on levels are Ammo Boxes (to replenish your standard-issue M-16), bazookas, flamethrowers, and sniper rifles. Since you can't replenish the ammo for the extra weapons, you'll have to take your shots carefully. The environments you'll battle in include real-world outdoor settings and indoor "alternate world" locales that include a giant bathroom, garden, sandbox, kitchen, and living room. Besides firing at everything that moves, Sarge can crawl on his belly, kneel, roll on the ground and climb ladders. Every hit makes Sarge move a bit slower so it's important to avoid gunfire at all costs!

Army Men: Sarge's Heroes 2

2000 · Action · Sony Playstation

When you're only an inch-and-a-half tall, the guest bathroom becomes a huge landscape filled with challenge, mystery, and danger. Familiar kitchen, bedroom, and backyard scenes viewed from a tiny perspective once again become the setting for Army Men: Sarge's Heroes 2. Animations are smooth, with the familiar Toy-Story-styled blend of 3D cartoon-like characters in a realistic environment. A sense of humor is evidenced in some of the death-scene animations and elsewhere. Of course, Army Men: Sarge's Heroes 2 features the "Plastosheen" dynamic lighting effects familiar to fans of the earlier games in the series. The title also includes a variety of new weapons that are instrumental in carrying out missions for the lantern-jawed Sarge, including shotguns, grenades, and flamethrowers. The most notable improvement in this second release in the Sarge's Heroes series is the addition of a third army - the Blues. Beware Brigitte Bleu, the beautiful but deadly spy working for nemesis General Plastro. Mission objectives are more developed and varied in this version of the game as players are required to eliminate certain targets, defend specific areas, or rescue captured comrades for success. Army Men: Sarge's Heroes 2 also improves on the character control and AI available in the first game.
