Synopsis

Lichtenstein made paintings based on fragments from Tintin comics, whilst Warhol used and even made a series of paintings with Hergé as the subject.

Hergé has been lauded as "creating in art a powerful graphic record of the 20th century's tortured history" through his work on Tintin, whilst Maurice Horn's World Encyclopedia of Comics declares him to have "spear-headed the post-World War II renaissance of European comic art".

In 1966, Charles de Gaulle said: "Basically, you know, my only international rival is Tintin!

In 2015, a tall sculpture of the rocket featured in Tintin: Destination Moon was unveiled at Brussels Airport.

Tintin has become a symbol of Belgium and so was used in a variety of visual responses to the 2016 Brussels bombings.

In 2024, the Royal Belgian Football Association unveiled a Tintin-inspired kit for the Belgian national football team.
